He explained that Cool Communities, Inc. builds vertically focused, passion-driven communities. Their first community, HeartHealthCommunity.com, is uniting cardiac healthcare professionals with their patients. Their second community, RacingandCars.com, is uniting automotive, motorsports, and collector car enthusiasts globally. We asked Stephen some questions to get to know him a little better and learn about his career journey. Here’s what he had to say:
· What made you want to get involved in this line of work?
Historically, I created shared services platforms for banks. Then, I helped to create leadership teams for companies. Cool Communities, Inc. enables me to combine my professional experiences with my passion for vintage racing and a healthy lifestyle.
· What has been the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Getting to see the “ah-ha” moment when people connect with others that share their granular passions in our communities.
· What’s the biggest challenge that you have faced in business and how did you overcome it?
Funding a startup is always challenging. We have self-funded ours but we are about to close a Series A round from third-party investors. The biggest challenge is making sure that those investors are handsomely rewarded for their belief in your ability to make “the vision” a reality.
· What business tips would you like to share with others?
Find a business or service that you are passionate about. One that you can “sell” with 100% conviction. Outwork and outsmart your competition. Put yourself in the “buyer’s” seat – How would you want to be treated? How would you want to be served?
· What has been your favorite part about working at Venture X?
I’ve been a member of Venture X for over a year. I love the caring and supportive staff. The owner happens to like racing and cars so we have a nexus in our passions. Starting a company is hard. Sharing the startup experiences and ideas with other members at Venture X has been helpful. We even found a senior member of our leadership team over our shared love of F1 (Formula 1). It’s unlikely that would ever have happened in a conventional office arrangement. Venture X is a great environment for startup companies!
A Personal Look at Stephen Page
Stephen’s passion for his work is admirable and inspiring. In fact, when asked about the greatest inspiration on his career path, he shared, “All the entrepreneurs that started and sold a successful business that were rooted in a passion.” As hard as Stephen works, we know everyone needs some downtime to unwind and refresh the mind. He told us he loves yoga and plays golf (badly) in his spare time. He was a successful vintage racer until he immersed himself in Cool Communities, Inc. Maybe there will be a connection to golf in their next community – we are eager to see what Stephen and his team come up with next.
