Venture X

Member Spotlight – David Victor

Coworking and flexible workspaces have seen incredible growth in the last year and have become the new “it” place to work for startups, small businesses, and even large corporations. The perks that come with flexible workspaces such as Venture X make it an easy decision for businesses as well as freelancers. From free coffee all day to a professional space that is well-maintained and occupied with other interesting professionals, the opportunities are endless at Venture X. Venture X members have the added benefit of being able to work from Venture X locations anywhere their travels may take them.

David Victor, Founder of Boomcycle Digital Marketing, works from Venture X Pleasanton, CA. Boomcycle Digital Marketing primarily focuses on SEO, online advertising, website designs and re-designs. Interestingly, David is also a guitarist/vocalist, formerly of the multi-platinum band Boston. He continues to perform live (in non-COVID times, of course) with his band nationwide. David also founded a charity, Harmony & Healing, which brings live, acoustic music into hospitals and healthcare facilities for patients and their loved ones.

·         What made you want to get involved in this line of work?

I was a Computer Science major in college, and I just always loved techie stuff. My uncle was a radar engineer in World War II (gee, am I dating myself?) and he used to give me old shortwave radios and other electronic doodads for me to tear apart and sometimes make work. My musical performing background helped with sales and marketing since you are always trying to sell yourself when you are selling tickets and putting on a show. With Boomcycle, I really enjoy meeting new people and learning about their work. The variety of ways to make a living is amazing!

·         What has been the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Running my own businesses, and loving what I do in each, is to me, the greatest way to go through life. I honestly do not foresee a time in the future where I will not want to be working on something, and making something work, whether it is a new website or a new band. Digital marketing affords me the opportunity to help other small businesses achieve their dreams too.

·         What is the biggest challenge that you have faced in business and how did you overcome it?

I started as a typically shy software developer, just wanting to do my thing, collect a paycheck, and play music. However, that got old quickly. In 2003, I saw the opportunity to earn the same money, and have a lot more fun doing it by starting my own Internet marketing company and helping others build their businesses too.

·         What business tips would you like to share with others?

Being an SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and Google My Business specialist, my tips are related to organic digital marketing. If you are a “local” business, you absolutely need to be on top of your Google My Business listing. Even franchisees should make sure their GMB is optimized to the nth degree because it has a huge impact on your visibility in Google when someone is searching for the products or services you offer. If you are a national business, you may need to fix your website – kind of the technical SEO, block-and-tackle work. In my experience, 95% of the websites of even large companies are broken in some way, shape, or form, and many are in quite sorry shape. Google likes to give their searchers a great experience. If your competitor’s website is faster or offers a more useful layout, Google is going to rank them ahead of you in the search results. Next, you need to create and optimize the content you produce for your website so that your company can become an authority in the eyes of the search engines. This, again, helps your rankings. Being visible in Google and Bing is critical. If you are invisible, you’re not even an option!

·         What has been your favorite part about working at Venture X?

I just started here a few months ago but I really love it! My wonderful family members keep me pretty busy and, let us be honest, distracted at home. At Venture X, I can focus on work for hours at a time. I was just thinking today that I am probably 2.5 times more productive here than when I am in my home office. That may be an understatement. When my wife told me yesterday that we had gotten four UPS deliveries and the dogs went nuts every time, I said a silent “Thank you, Venture X” for my quiet little work oasis here in Pleasanton!

A Personal Look at David Victor

Other than David’s extremely exciting part in the music industry as part of the successful band Boston, David is a busy guy. When he is not working at Boomcycle, the rest of his life “involves plenty of music, some travel, my dear, sweet wife and our two fluffy dogs.”

We asked David about his greatest inspiration and he shared, “My father, no question. He founded and ran his own company, and had a successful exit, way before I even knew what an ‘exit’ was! He and his wife, who helped him make the company a tremendous success, retired back in the 90s. Today, my dad golfs, travels, and eats ice cream, and he is probably the most contented guy I know. I love and respect him, and he’s just an incredible role model.” That does sound like a wonderful life to us, and we understand why he has been an inspiration for David.
