Boundless Energy is a sales and marketing company that partners with solar installers. They find homeowners and help them transition to clean energy through rooftop solar.
We asked Riley some Q & As to get to know him a little better and learn about the journey he’s been on, career-wise. Boundless Energy has been in business for only about 4 months now. They started with a team of five and now have over 70 sales reps and employees in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Nevada, California and Florida.
· What made you want to get involved in this line of work?
I have been in the industry for 7 years; I’ve been building and managing sales teams on the East Coast for a long time. I love sales and sales leadership, I have always been naturally good at it and really felt like the time was right to branch off and start a company with some of my favorite people I’ve worked with in the past. After so long of working for someone else and building their business for them, eventually, you get the itch to just do it for yourself and that’s what we did. We are doing a lot of the same things, just with fewer restrictions, more risk, and more reward.
· What has been the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The solar industry has been a Godsend. It’s such an incredible wealth opportunity. To take someone who has never really made 6 figures and teach them how to create that for themselves. Watching them use the skills taught and begin buying their first house, start saving money and investing, building wealth, that’s the most fulfilling thing. We are creating life-changing wealth for so many people, all while saving all of our customers’ money in the process. It’s almost too good to be true.
· What’s the biggest challenge that you have faced in business and how did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge for me isn’t finding an opportunity or figuring out how to grow, its saying no. Learning which opportunities NOT to pursue has been the most important thing I’ve learned so far. It’s important to focus on the most important things and the most efficient things available rather than constantly chase new markets, new things. Don’t get me wrong, we have an insatiable appetite for growth and we are constantly pushing the envelope. But we’ve started saying no more. And it’s working well. Rather than be pretty good in a lot of areas, we are focused on dominating the areas we are in.
· What business tips would you like to share with others?
Good partnerships are worth their weight in gold.
Equity is like manure – spread it around and the crops grow. Pile it up in one place and nothing grows.
· What has been your favorite part about working at Venture X?
It’s just a great place to be. The atmosphere is incredible, lots of like-minded people all in one place, it’s like an incubator. I come here and grow every day. We are starting to grow out of our space, but we like it here so much we are trying to find a place right next door so we can still utilize the space as needed for the long term.
A Personal Look at Riley Traveller
When asked what has been his greatest inspiration, Riley shared “I just like changing people’s lives. I’ve been blessed by many people along the way and to be able to be on the other side now, and allowing others to create life-changing wealth for themselves is what gets me up in the morning and keeps me burning the midnight oil.” We’re all about changing people’s lives too and are excited to see Riley’s team continue to grow and succeed.
In his spare time, Riley enjoys playing with his two children, golfing with friends, and hosting BBQs in his backyard. We know that success comes with finding a work-life balance and we are happy to see Riley has found that.
